Pennoyer Family Newsletter - 9/15/23

Pennoyer Families,

As we roll through the second week in September, we hope all of our students are settling in and making the best of their days at Pennoyer.  Our staff is doing an amazing job, and I'm seeing so many creative things going on in our classrooms!  If you didn't get a chance to sign up at Curriculum Night, or you didn't receive a letter home from your student in the last couple of weeks, we're really strongly encouraging ALL of our families to sign up for PBIS Rewards at Pennoyer and download the app.  If you need a specific QR code or have any questions, you can reach out to me or your student's homeroom teacher directly.  Once you have the app, the QR code will connect you directly with your student's PBIS Rewards account.  This a valuable way to see all of the positive things they're doing, connect with teachers, and be alerted when there are referrals if situations arrive that might need some behavioral interventions with your student.  Check out this VIDEO about PBIS Rewards.  You can check out this VIDEO as well about downloading and connecting on the family app.

Just a final reminder to parents/guardians, if you're interested in being part of any of our monthly meetings this school year, please take a moment to fill out this Google Survey if you haven't already.  It should just take a minute. I want to continue to host these opportunities with Pennoyer parents/guardians where we can Connect, Collaborate, and Celebrate together!  I'm currently planning on having our first meeting of the year in October.

Ok...I know how everyone who is a Chicago Bears fan like me is feeling right now, and maybe I did jinx us last week, but images like the one below are burned into my brain, and I just hope last week lights a fire underneath our Bears.  Just go out and look like an NFL that WANTS to actually win and compete...is that too much to ask?!

School Information and Reminders:

*Please remember that after school each day, we must close our playground to students and families in our back lot.  This is due to safety and supervision constraints.  Please understand and help us keep your children off the playgrounds after school.  Our supervisors are out there monitoring pick up and then need to leave and lock up in a timely manner.  Thanks for your support with this!

**Please also remember when parking at the Salvation Army during dismissal time, you MUST use a designated parking spot in their lot.  Cars cannot park in front of the building by the sidewalk where students are walking.  This is really a safety concern, and we want to keep our cooperative partnership with Salvation Army.  They really go out of their way to give our families the ability to have options during arrival and dismissal times.  Thanks for your understanding!

We Celebrate at Pennoyer!

There couldn't be a bigger celebration to highlight this week than Circus Amongus!  What an incredible way to celebrate our students, staff, and community with the incredible event we had this past Thursday.  We wanted to do something special after the referendums passed last year, and this experience definitely lived up to the hype.  Our students at all levels learned new skills, collaborated together, took on leadership roles, and had so much fun exploring opportunities most of them have never experienced before.  It was amazing to see!  The morning was filled with sessions that ranged from the trapeze to the tightrope and everything in between.  After the lunch/recess break, our students put on their wardrobes, painted their faces, and put on the Pennoyer "big top" show of the year as they highlighted their favorite skills and activities they participated in during the day.  It was an epic way to end the day!  A huge thanks and shout out to all of the staff and volunteer parents/guardians, and community members who really made this all possible, along with Mr. Sam and his team from Circus Amongus.  What a great Pennoyer Pride memory for everyone!
