Pennoyer Families,
Well, the weather around here this week was much nicer, and it was good to see students outside during recess and not having to deal with super cold temperatures during arrival and dismissal times. Let's hope for the best moving forward. I think the groundhog saw his shadow, but I honestly can't remember a time when "Phil" the groundhog DIDN'T see his shadow around here. I think we all know that when you live in the Chicagoland area, winter likes to hang around until the time when spring actually should be.
Anyways, I'm hoping for a good Super Bowl on Sunday so I have something more to watch than just the commercials, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. If you're a fan, I hope you have something fun planned even if it's just hanging out with friends and cooking up some tasty food.
Please don't forget about our very important meeting at Pennoyer this coming week on February 15th at 6pm for ALL parents/guardians, students, and staff. This will be a great opportunity to come together and give families even more information of the realities that are at stake for our school and continue to have thoughtful conversations surrounding everything. HERE is an informational flyer and here is the PARENT RSVP LINK.
We hope everyone can join us!
Also, to support our school and every single student here, Pennoyer families and friends can join the private Facebook group “Pennoyer Moms and Dads” if they wish. Families can also check out PennoyerYes.com to sign up for updates, be a volunteer, and seek out ways you can get involved.
School Information and Reminders:
ESL Volunteer Instructor Program at The Salvation Army - If you're interested, see the message below and contact Pamela Church-Pryor at the Salvation Army. Her number is 708-456-6220 and her email is Pryor@usc.salvationarmy.org
Here at The Salvation Army, we are looking ahead to ways we can better serve our community in the new year and we feel ESL classes would be beneficial, considering how many immigrants and refugees have come to live among us. We’d prefer to provide classes during the school hours, so parents would not have to worry about child care, but we may also consider evening classes.
Ukrainian Translator Opportunity with the Norridge Police Department - Wayne Schober, the Deputy Chief of Police from the Norridge Police Department, reached out asking if we could help find any staff or community members to support when translators are needed at the police department.
We Celebrate at Pennoyer!
Well, I'm not much of a world traveler, but I couldn't stop smiling as I got a chance to experience our brand new Travel Club this year at Pennoyer! It's been incredible to see how much this club has taken off this year. It's popularity is infectious, and if you don't believe me, all of you have to do is show up! Mrs. Tronco and Mrs. Kula are the masterminds and leaders behind this creative and thoughtful club that gives our students opportunities to travel the world through simulations in the classroom setting. They have a K-4th group and a 5th-8th group so all students can participate and explore places all around the world together. They have opportunities to learn about the sights, sounds, food, and so much more as students journey to destinations and share their experiences and inquires with one another. They even have passports!!!
