Pennoyer Family Newsletter - 4/12/24

Pennoyer Families,

What a cool week at Pennoyer for students and staff!  We started out with engaging students in exploring the solar eclipse and what the phenomon was all about.  Many of our K-5th graders did activities in their classrooms, while Mrs. Mardula put together a schedule to give our 6th-8th graders the opportunity to view the eclipse firsthand and connect with their specific science standards they cover in middle school.

We also had a group of our 8th graders take a special trip to Washington DC this week and have an amazing experience!  Thanks so much to Mrs. Peters for being the coordinator and putting an incredible 3 days together for our students!  Mrs. Kula and Mrs. Tronco also supported and came along on the trip and did a wonderful job working with our students each day.  There was so much history that our 8th graders took in, and certainly memories that should last a lifetime.  

Pennoyer Parents/Guardians...SAVE THE DATE on Wednesday, April 24th we'll be having a special monthly Parent Night Meeting from 6:30-7:30pm in the MPR that we're calling "The World of Social Media" with myself, our social worker, Mrs. Slawson, our ALOP Student Advocate, Ms. Stickley, and a couple of our Norridge Police Officers.  This will build on what we began talking about last year to support families with how to best navigate and understand the world of social media and the Internet that we find so many of our children immersed in.

We Celebrate at Pennoyer!

I wanted to take this week to celebrate our incredible Leadership Team at Pennoyer.  Ms. Norgard, Mrs. Slawson, Ms. Barzano, Ms. Bieda, Mrs. Loring, and Mrs. Koukari have been amazing Team Leaders to work with this year.  This group of staff members have done so much work to support our systems, staff, students, and families.  I know we have more work to do, but the level of dedication and thoughtful collaboration this year has set us on such a promising path, and this team has certainly put in the work.  Whether it's at Staff Meetings, Grade Band Meetings, or Institute Days, this Leadership Team has taken on so many responsibilities and really stepped up time and time again.  I know how incredibly lucky I am to be working with such a great group of educators.  #Pennoyerpride
